Today I emerged Grip and wanted to test it, but I use KDE.
I started the program all right, but then I wanted to have some help and it loaded Nautilus. That's OK with me, but what I don't like is the fact that it loaded not only Nautilus but the whole Gnome background.

So now I got a Gnome desktop with a KDE taskbar in my KDE environment.

Restarting x doesn't help!! How can I remove the frigging Gnome layer??? Kde starts all right, but at the very end of the initialization it loads the Gnome background and icons...
Oh and my fonts are messed up, too, the size is far too big for me!!

I really need help on this point, it's driving me mad!!*
Thanks!

yep! Worked perfectly! Thanks a lot.

Do you happen to know a way I can use grip (for instance, but that might be another gnome program) without loading the whole background?

Thanks again.

Usually, it should run without running nautilus :?

Yes, actually there is no problem with grip, it's only nautilus (which is launched whenever i want help about grip, but I got the thing now : I don't really need help on Grip :-). Not that bad anyway.

Another question which seems to be Gnome/Kde related again : grip doesn't look good at all in Kde, it doesn't use the theme (eg Keramik) I chose in KDE. I think it's because it's a "gnome" program. Is there a way I can make all my program use the same decorations? (I got the same problem with Mozilla Firebird... It doesn't look good!!)

Thanks.

You can make nautilus start without taking over the background by doing
Code:
nautilus --no-desktop

As for your gtk programs looking horrid, you can get some themes which match some common kde themes here, and for general themes you can look here.

For switching the themes, you can use switch (don't remember the full name, do an emerge -s switch to find it).

As for MozillaFirebird, you need to make sure you build it when USE="gtk2" if you want for it to use gtk.

Hope that helps. :)

If you want grip to match kde, I recommend USE="gtk2" emerge geramik and USE="gtk2" emerge gtk-theme-switch.. it's a gtk version of keramik. use the "switch2" program then to switch the gtk theme. Yeah, I know it's a mess, but with both kde and gnome supporting svg, hopefully we'll see more common themes.

That's interesting : I emerged Geramik and the theme is nowhere to be found when I try to use it in Gnome?
Am i dumb or what?(yeah don't bother to answer that last question, I know I am.)
