Hello everyone, just a small question. I installed pure-ftpd and want to run it as a stand alone server.
I installed it under root and it configured and works properly when i start it while being root. I just cant start it with a normal user account. just wondering if theres a way i can give permission for this user to star it.
thanks in advance. |

hi,
iirc you need to be root to start a app, which uses a port < 1024... you can suid pureftpd (not a good idea -> security reason), use a port > 1024 or use sudo (best way to do this imho)
hth,

If you really must use pure-ftpd as normal user, best way is to use any port higher than 1024, just a suggestion, do what you think is the best ![Smile :)](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |
