i get the following error when i try to configure the vmware tools and build the vmhgfs module.. can anyone let me know a workaround or something please?

What version of vmware are you using?
There is an updated version in portage that is masked that supports 2.6 kernels.
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~86" emerge vmware -p |

i'm using vmware 4.0.0, with gentoo as the guest. i'll update my vmware for windows, and check back. |

well, the vmhgfs still didn't compile, but at least the rest of it finished this time. thanks for pointing out there was a new version. |
