Hi there!
I've just done an update and one of the updated programs is python.
There are 10 years now since I've installed Gentoo and been running #python-updater every time python is updated.
Last time I did it was a month or so ago.
Today, I wanted to run it again after that mentioned update and , alas ! there's no #python-updater command.
Code: | [ebuild U ] dev-lang/python-3.5.2:3.5/3.5m::gentoo [3.5.1-r1:3.5/3.5m::gentoo] USE="gdbm ipv6 ncurses readline ssl threads xml -build -examples -hardened -libressl -sqlite -tk -wininst" 14,878 KiB |
Code: | daniel ~ # python
python python2.7-config python3.4 python3.4m-config python3.5m python-config
python2 python2-config python3.4-config python3.5 python3.5m-config python-exec2c
python2.7 python3 python3.4m python3.5-config python3-config |
Am I facing an error or this is the new normality ?
Thanks guys! _________________ My art at www.danielchiriac.com

hi,
I don't know, if the python-updater command was part of the python package, but I can install the package via portage:
Code: |
# emerge -av python-updater
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild N ] app-admin/python-updater-0.14::gentoo 0 KiB
Total: 1 package (1 new), Size of downloads: 0 KiB
Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No]

Thank you mvaterlaus ! I didn't know it's a stand alone app.
I've always thought it comes with python. _________________ My art at www.danielchiriac.com |

Now, I've just installed python-updater. That's OK but now I wonder how python-updater was wiped out from my system ... _________________ My art at www.danielchiriac.com |

Code: | commit b7a4174e075a922a255c0ff4a6ebd4f6d0437c61
Author: Michał Górny <mgorny@gentoo.org>

dev-lang/python: Remove remnants of python-updater
Remove the remaining dependencies on deprecated python-updater,
and update the postinst messages appropriately. For Python 2.7,
the message has been removed altogether since it is the oldest version
supported by PYTHON_TARGETS. For the remaining versions, just inform
about potential PYTHON_TARGETS changes necessary.
The modified versions are not revision-bumped to avoid unnecessary
rebuilds due to a minor change. The versions that are still
newest-visible (i.e. not replaced by another version or revision bump)
will be bumped when python-updater is lastrited.
|
Summary: It's not been needed in a while, so dependencies on it were dropped, and eventually it'll disappear altogether. |

Thank you kurly ! I missed that news and probably I forgot it was among the selected packages at my last #emerge --depclean _________________ My art at www.danielchiriac.com |
