EMERGEing SNORT and problems with libnet version

First-time posting here...I just recently finished compiling my gentoo system from a stage 1 tarball...so far so good as everything is up and going sucessfully (except gnome)...anyways i decided to install snort and went ahead and did an 'emerge -p snort' and it told me i needed libnet (dont rmember the version at this point) and snort 2.0.0...well i went ahead and it finished libnet sucessfully..then when it went on to snort, it stopped with an error saying it couldnt find libnet..

so i did an 'emerge -u libnet' and it gave me libnet version 2...well next time around with snort it found the libnet.h file it was looking for, however it says it is the wrong version..it wants version 1.0 and i have 2.0..so i did an 'emerge -C libnet' and then did another 'emerge libnet' and found that i know how version 1.2 of libnet but snort is still complaining that its not version 1.0

is there something im doing wrong hee or something special i need to do? if snort 2.0.0 NEEDS libnet version 1.0 and nothing higher than i gues this would be a bug..otherwise if im doing something wrong, id appreciate the help. thanks guys

i dont know where i got libnet version 2 from..anyways..

snort 2.0.0 wants libnet 1.0.2a and instead of have libnet version 1.1.0..

aside from doing this manually, how can I sucessfully install snort using portage? thanks again

thats exactly the problem im having..um, now forgive me for sounding noobish..but how do i apply the 'patches' on that site?

i hate wasting forum space..sosorry..just wanted to say that i found a way to manually emerge snort 2.0.2 instead of default to 2.0.0...and its working now...thanks for pointing out the patches and i would still like to know exactly how i would use them...d/l them and make them executable?
