Im trying to build gentoo on a Sata drive with this livecd, it boots fine, but it doesnt detects any serial port, if i do a:
Code: |
dmesg | grep serial
|
i got nothing, tried to modprobe serial but there isnt any module named like that.
Is there any way to make my serial ports work with that livecd, or is there any livecd with sata support.
I need my serial ports for my modem to work, thanks. |

Hello,
First of all I just want to make sure we're on the same page with SATA drives. Serial ATA is totally seperate from a serial port. I think you know that but I'm just reiterating it for my sanity
Anyways, unless I'm mistaken the current incarnation of the 2.6.0 liveCD contains kernel 2.6.0-test8. The SATA support was first added in 2.6.0-test9, and there have been several bugfixes in the subsequent bk patches to it. So, essentially the 2.6.0 liveCD will not allow you to install on a sata drive yet.
I *JUST* got a new box with SATA and I managed to install by using my old IDE drive and compiling a 2.6.0-test9-bk11 kernel for that so I could see the drives, then doing a gentoo install from there. I also have interest in a 2.6.0 livecd that is sata-capable, so I may be trying to create one tonight based on my newest kernel compile and the extremely blleeding edge 2.6.0-test9-bk17 just for us SATA users, at least until the new 2.6.0 liveCDs come out. I'll keep you posted.

Oh, and a quick note, the module that does sata stuff is the libata module |

Sorry if i made a mess on my post, the sata drive works fine, it is detected as hde, the problem is that my serial port (the one that has my modem) isnt detected, dmesg doesnt even shows that serial is loaded, is there any other way to make a modem work or make the livecd detect the serial port??? |
