nm-applet not running after upgrade to unstable

I added ACCEPT_KEYWORDS=~amd64 and did an emerge -uDNav --with-bdeps=y @world. After a reboot I see that nm-applet is not running at all and there is no Wifi settings item in the system dropdown. Even on running nm-applet manually from the terminal nothing appears. I see no errors in the log either. NetworkManager is running fine and am able to connect. Any help would be appreciated. As a workaround I am connecting to networks using gnome-control-center.
