|
|
I tried adding this line to local.start:
/usr/local/bin/dynip.sh
but when I restart local it says it fails. So, I tried:
sh /usr/local/bin/dynip.sh
That doesn't work either. I obviously don't understand something very basic about local.start and would appreciate some help. Incidentally, it's a script to update my IP address with dyndns.org. |

* Failed to start local. [!!]
Do we call that a Gentoo system message? Anyway, it's not a syntax error or anything. When I remove the line it works fine. |

Yes. That's what I've been doing, but sometimes I forget to run it before I go to school and then I can just forget about sending my files home. Well...I guess I don't need to explain why, but just that I do.. |

Are you not using PPP to connect?
If so it's much more reliable to trigger the script from /etc/ppp/ip-up.local than from /etc/init.d/local.start.
Just to double check, you did chmod both /etc/init.d/local.start and your script to 755, right?
on further thought by any chance would the script attempt to send back a status code? I'm wondering if it sends back a return code so that the init script thinks it failed to run properly. |

The script sends back a few line breaks. I think you were right. It does appear to be working anyway. |
