For some reason I can't get my rage128 to have direct rendering. I've tried every how-to. explanation, walk-through, etc. out there, but I can't seem to get it to say "direct rendering: Yes" and I reaaaaaaaaally want it to.
I have xfree set to load dri, glx and the r128 module. I also installed xfree-drm, did the opengl-update xfree thing and no cigar.
I'm figuring this is the problem, but I don't know what it means:
Code: | /var/log/XFree86.0.log:(EE) R128(0): No DFP detected
/var/log/XFree86.0.log:(EE) R128(0): [dri] DRIScreenInit failed. Disabling DRI. |
It also loads the ati module. Does it need to load this for the r128 one? It's not in the conf file...
log: http://n3x.ath.cx:8000/~james/XF86Config
cfg: http://n3x.ath.cx:8000/~james/XFree86.0.log
Any ideas?
Thanks for your help.

I have had my rage 128 working with direct rendering. It currently doesn't want to work, but I haven't looked why yet. All I did was download the Gatos drivers, untar them, and use "r128" as my video driver. Also make sure you do the add the Code: | Section "DRI"
Mode 0666
EndSection | and uncomment the dri and glx load options.
I am sorry to say this, but with my card at least, I don't see much difference between hardware and software rendering. I end up with a glxgears of about 175.
Good luck,
Leikor |

Okay, I gave that a shot, but still no luck. ... I still get "Direct rendering: no" when I glxinfo. I'm looking for a new video card anyways... |

I get a lousy framerate in glxgears.
Code: |
Section "Module"
# This loads the DBE extension module.
Load "dbe" # Double buffer extension
Load "glx" # GLX
Load "dri" # Direct Rendering Infrastructure
....
Section "Device"
Identifier "ATI AIW 128 32mb"
Driver "ati"
#VideoRam 32768
# Insert Clocks lines here if appropriate
EndSection
...
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen 1"
Device "ATI AIW 128 32mb"
Monitor "Dell D825HT"
DefaultDepth 24
...
|
Someday I'll get it right. |

I have that exact card (well the 16mb version of it), but dri has stopped and I don't know why.
What kernel version do you use? (I tried to redo it today, and the xfree-drm package tells me that it doesn't work with 2.6 yet)
What drivers are you using? (You have "ati" for your driver and I've never had that work)
Can you still use the TV Tuner portions of your card?
How fast of a glxgears do you get?
Thanks,
Leikor |

Oh dear, I guess we just need to realise that, in fact, our rages suck and we need new graphics cards
On the todo list it goes.
Thanks for all your help.
