I was able to figure it out (with a lot of help from the forums) and now have gentoo installed on my second hard drive. My biggest problem was a kernel panic--not being able to access hde3. I finally realized that I needed to compile support for the ata100 pci card (the Promise PDC202xx). The help in menuconfig was really what I needed to get through that part. Also, The forum helped me get my ethernet card going by telling me what they did in /etc/conf.d/net for dhcp (dhcpd_eth0="-h hostname"). I guess now I need to get a web browser and maybe a file manager to get started learning about linux. Can anybody suggest something? Mozilla? Galeon? fluxbox, etc.? Thanks for your great help. |

Fluxbox is a lightweight (aka not a resource hog) Window Manager. For a nice file manager (if a terminal isn't enough), check out gentoo under /usr/portage/app-misc/gentoo (gentoo the filemanager is not an official Gentoo product). _________________ Quis separabit?
