I have downloaded and burned both Athlon XP and i686 ISO's and neither will boot on my machine (which is an athlonXP). The BIOS attempts to boot the CD-ROM but after several seconds of reading the CD, it moves on to boot the harddrive. I have verified the files using the MD5 value. The burned CD's are perfectly readable in Win Explorer so it doesn't seem to be a file system problem.

I had also gotten version 1.2 (i686) several months ago and it booted fine on the same machine. There has been no change to my hardware in the interim.

Any help here? Thanks

Check the Bios bootorder and make sure to put cdrom as first option to boot.

My BIOS boot order is fine - I regularly boot from a CD on this machine.

As I said above, I can boot the Gentoo 1.2 CD.

You could try booting with Knoppix (www.knoppix.net).

Hi,

I had the same problem. :(

Try burning the ISO to a 650MB CD and not a 700MB one.

Seemed to work for me. :D

Cheers,

meb.

cdlyon,

Try burning the CD at a slow speed (1X or 2X if possible). Did you also verify the md5sum?

Pete

Thanks to meb's tip above, my problem is fixed. I never would have guessed that using a 700 vs 650 CD would cause the problem.
