Suspend to RAM is unstable on Gentoo recently

For several months, the suspend to ram feature has been hit and miss and I dont really understand why. Sometimes it works normally, sometimes it doenst goto sleep by it self, sometimes it wont sleep manually and sometimes it wont wake up from sleep. This is happening on both stable and testing arch for amd64. Both computers have Radeon OSS drivers one uses the new amdati driver and the other the foss radeon driver. Both are running plasma and openrc... is this a udev issue?

A lot depends on the actual system. I suspend/resume my 2014 Macbook fine, with pretty much everything ~amd64.
