When I have installed gentoo and tried to create a fs type xfs or ext3 on the suggested partition /dev/hda3 inm the install documetation (root)
It runs out of memory when trying to create the inodes for an ext fs
--on a 60gb drive, it fails at about 400 inodes
So, in the documentation, if the user has a larger hdd, e.g 50gb +, then the command swapon /dev/hda2 should be entered before attemting to create the fs type with mke2fs - j /dev/hda
--otherwise there are Out of memory errors, even with large amounts of RAM <= 1gb RAM
