Hi there,
the gentoo Project:IA-64 - is it still alive?
... got numerous problems booting the Minimal install CD IA-64 on HP RX4640:
- kernel is not able to load modules but net/disk-drivers are only available by modules,
- vfat32 tools generate corrupted EFI filesystem
- elilo is dysfunctional at all
- 2008 IA-64 install CD: kernel to old for recent Stage3-Image and wont chroot ...
Absurd.
I got it running using Debian 7 IA-64:
- install on attached USB HDD
- gentoo IA-64 stage3 chroot and install on integrated HDD
- using Debian utils for EFI partition and exchange of gentoo's elilo by Debian's binary (!)
- brand-new kernel 4.9.0 from kernel.org (yes, working !!)-> but without module subsystem. Simply doesnt work on gentoo
So my question: the gentoo Project:IA-64 - is it still alive?

There's a discussion in last gentoo council (summary, full log) _________________ Questions are guaranteed in life; Answers aren't. |
