i tried like this post:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-801985-highlight-gcc+broken.html
Quote: | Untar it to your / (root)
Code:
tar -xjpf gcc-4.3.4.tbz2 -C /
the p option is essential to preserve the permissions, or the execute permission will be removed. Its just like a minature stage3 tarball.
When thats done, use
Code:
gcc-config
to select your new gcc. Lastly use gcc to emerge gcc, so you are back where yu expected to be. |
but i go that message:
Code: | tar -xjpf gcc-4.8.3.tbz2 -C /
bzip2: (stdin): trailing garbage after EOF ignored |

This is normal, because Gentoo add information at the end of the file.
You can go on reading that topic _________________ Kind regards,

I've been reading pakk's posts.
I think pakk should see a shrink.

You can start by not editing all of your previous posts and refusing to listen to useful advice. You unmerged your GCC, that's ok, it happens, no need to hide it. |

that's not the point, I said it. but before to unmerge, there was a bug and also that's not the point.
if the dude had replied with details, there is long time that it would be fixed. |

pakk,
Help the community to help you. Don't remove previous posts.
Work to understand what you do.
The solution you need, with step by step instructions, is on the Gentoo wiki.
Homework: Find it.
Show us that you can contribute to solving your issue.
You will find many people here eager to teach you to fish with Gentoo but very few willing to give you a fish. _________________ Regards,

You're not as important as you'd like to believe. Screaming and throwing a tantrum will not get you help, now or ever.
Since you can't be bothered to read, I suggest you take a nice long vacation of 6 months and come back with a different username. |

Hi pakk,
You're over-reacting here, most likely simply because you're a noob. Gentoo is probably the second most technically advanced Linux to install (LFS being the most). You're expected to do a lot of reading on your own to install and maintain Gentoo. xaviermiller's first response to you was friendly and was letting you know you were on the right track. Please don't be too sensitive and please don't stop asking questions. You'll find that there are a lot of helpful people here, but it's the nature of Gentoo that you have to put in a lot of effort too.

The link from your second post on this thread is the right one. Follow that and if you encounter problems, post detailed information on exactly what you did and what the exact results were, including the error messages.

See xaviermiller's first response. That is normal. Just proceed like the topic describes.

pakk,
I'm pleased you stuck with Gentoo.
The file gcc-4.8.3.tbz2 is in portages BINPACKGE format, which is the tarball you want followed by some portage specific information that tar cannot deal with.
That's fine.
This will give you gcc-4.8.3 installed on your system. You may still need to select it so it will actually work. _________________ Regards,

Hi!,
What doesn't work?
Did you run gcc-config to enable the new gcc? _________________ Kind regards,
