|
|
I have recently installed Gentoo Linux for the first time. I faithfully followed the instructions that I have found on the www.gentoo.org site and noticed it doesn't say anything about configuring your system to boot into a graphical user interface.
Missing is a step that tells you to run the following command
rc-update add xdm default
Even though your are telling gentoo to add xdm to the default init profile you can use it to boot gdm or kdm if you configure your rc.conf file correctly.
to do that do this
nano -w /etc/rc.conf
find the line that talks about xdm and change it to be gdm or kdm
ALSO
Find the line that defines the Session varible and specify it be like this
SESSION=Gnome
or
SESSION=kde-vv
where vv is the version of kde you have installed on your system.

*random stuff*
Epx, I hate GDM and KDM and XDM also... But I love Qingy. Give it a try. It's in Portage. _________________ old outdated sig |
