Hi, i tried to emerge ghc on arm, but there is no binary as download for the initial bootstrap
so i tried with :
that leads to the follwing error
Code: |
* You requested ghc bootstrapping, this is usually only used
* by Gentoo developers to make binary .tbz2 packages.
* ERROR: dev-lang/ghc-7.10.3::gentoo failed (setup phase):
* Could not find a ghc to bootstrap with.
|
if i really really want an ghc on arm, could the following procedure lead me to success :
(1) build a arm crosscompile on my intel
(2) use it to crosscompile a ghc
(3) transfer that ghc somehow to my arm ( buildpkg and copy, probably)
(4) try to bootstrap ghc with that cross-compiled ghc _________________ Systems running gentoo :

Treborius,
The ebuild is worth reading.
It glosses oven how to get a ghc cross compiler and also hints that the arm version used to exist.
The arm version is still there but as its commented out, there are probably problems further into the build procss.
A ghc cross compiler will run on your main system and produce code to run on your arm system.
You might even be able to use the ghc cross compiler to build a ghc compiler that runs on arm. _________________ Regards,
