So, I happen to have a C3600 machine, I have recently updated the ram to 8GB, and compiled the kernel into 64bit mode

If I don't enable Discontiguous Memory in the kernel setup, the kernel doesn't see more than 3.8Gbyte of ram
but if do so, the kernel is unstable, and I get kernel panics
I am on 2.6.29-tasmanian-devil-hp-c3600-64bit.
Any tips? |

| Is 2.6.29 the Linux kernel version you used? If so, why are you using such an ancient kernel? If not, what kernel version are you using? Does it work with current kernels? |

yes, I am on 2.6.29
It's the kernel it was installed when I bought the machine, 8 years ago.
I have just upgraded the ram, and enabled the 64 bit mode
but, it's not stable at all.
so the question is for you: does it work with current kernels?

| Current kernels work very well on typical commodity consumer and business grade hardware. I am pretty sure I have never even seen a machine based on that architecture. I have no information whether a recent kernel would work well on your hardware, but I strongly suggest using a current kernel. If it works, you will get numerous other fixes. If it does not, then at least you will be on a kernel that someone might be willing to help you debug. |

| "Typical commodity consumer/business grade hardware" means the type of things you will find in homes/offices of people who buy a computer from some big store because they want to run common programs. Historically, that meant x86/amd64. Lately, a surge of consumer grade ARM devices is changing that somewhat. I am not aware of any HPPA ever being sold to an end user who "just wants a computer" and has no idea that the exotic architectures even exist. |

| my C3600 is in perfect working condition now. It was hard, especially recently, because there were a lot of problems with perl and alike. But they are all solved, and I have also ported GNAT to HPPA. |
