Hi all.
I have printer enabled in the kernel - both places.
/bin/dmesg has the one line:
parport0: PC-style at 0x378 [PCSPP(,...)]
However, I dont have /dev/lp* or /dev/printer or /dev/par or anything remotely useful.
What should I do? I once found a magic frog and I have one wish left - should I use it for this? Or world peace?
Regards,

Well, I had the same problem earlier on. I just compiled the kernel with a few new options. The ones that worked for me,
parallel port support --> parallel port support
parallel port support --> PC-Style hardware
parallel port support --> Multi I/O cards
Character devices --> Parallel printer
I don't know if the Multi I/O card is really necessary, but I guessed I might need it for my (non USB) scanner. Doesn't work by the way.
This did the trick in my situation. dmesg states the lines:
parport0: PC-style at 0x378 (0x778) [PCSPP(,...)]
parport0: irq 7 detected
and..
lp0: using parport0 (polling).
Hope this works for you too!
