I'm having a bit of a problem with gaim. I emerged gaim and received 0.71
Well I am wondering why it is freezing when I go to send a message, is there a patch? and how do I upgrade it to the new 0.72 that is avaliable since I have no idea how to install anything except to emerge it. |

Hey,
You can always download gaim from gaim.sourceforge.net and install it yourself until they update the ebuild.
All you have to do is:
get the gaim-0.72.taz.bz2 file
tar xvjf gaim-0.72.taz.bz2
cd gaim-0.72
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/gaim-0.72
make
make install
then ...
cd /usr/local/gaim-072/bin
./gaim
(or u can always create a link to your desktop or menu ...
Hope this helps...

I seem to be having similar problems...GAIM randomly hang, either when I log on immediately, or if it doesnt, then its as soon as I send a message...rather awkward, it didnt do this before... I -just- reinstalled Gentoo, maybe its the fault of a new package somewhere? |

I've had the same problem. If your in kde, emerge kopete. It quite the capable im client. It is part of kdenetwork in 3.2/cvs which is how im runnin it. The standalone isnt that far behind, and IIRC they recently released an update to it. _________________ OH MY GOD! Kenny just killed Kenny!

One more thing I think might have been a problem is the portage, try;
and see if there are any portage packages that need to be downloaded, also try Code: | emerge portage -u -p |
don't know if the outcome is going to be different but it'll let you know and download and try to emerge them if you can.
I found that my portage wasn't up to date due to a script error in the "Live CD" that they released and the best way I found around it was to download a new stages and shown how to do in the Installation Documentation. |
