Use CVS. either build it yourself or use my builds. |

Stupid quesion, but it needs to be asked: Do you still have your identity set in kmail?
I only ask because the same thing happened to me the other day and I discovered my identity had somehow been deleted. When I restored it, my mail got sent as usual.

I am also having problems with sending out mail from KMail 3.2 beta. When I try to send mail out, I get this error:
Code: | Sending failed:
Your SMTP server doesn't support authentication.
The server responded: "Command unrecognized: "AUTH PLAIN""
The message will stay in the 'outbox' folder until you either fix the problem (e.g. a broken address) or remove the message from the 'outbox' folder.
The following transport protocol was used:
On campus mail |
I don't have this problem with KDE 3.1.4. It looks like that this is a bug with KDE 3.2 beta that hasn't been resolved yet. There are a fair number of bugs regarding KMail and SMTP at bugs.kde.org. _________________ I'm only hanging out in OTW until I get rid of this stupid l33t ranking.....Crap. That didn't work. |

KMail does have its quirks, no doubt about that. I'm running a cvs version but haven't had that problem. Did you re-run the Check What the Server Supports option in settings? Maybe that would help.

I did run Check What the Server Supports. Basically, it didn't pick up any of the security options, but this is the same behavior as in KDE 3.1.4.
It also didn't help my problem. _________________ I'm only hanging out in OTW until I get rid of this stupid l33t ranking.....Crap. That didn't work. |

When I first emerged kde 3.2.0-beta1 on my test box, I had the same problem. As I recall, I think I fixed it by removing and re-entering my identies and/or network info, and exiting kmail, then reopening kmail. Then it begin sending mail as normal. Don't forget to delete any failed queued messages you tried to send, or they will block sending until they are removed.

I'm not sure if this is related but i had smtp problems as well with kde 3.2 beta1 (bare lf error from qmail while sending via smtp). I solved them by unmerging the old version(s) of kde and remerging kdepim (kmail has moved from kdenetwork). According to http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=64559 there are known problems with the interaction between kmail from 3.2 and kio_smtp from 3.1
maybe that helps... |

larryboy, do you have kde-cvs installed along side kde 3.1.4, or do you have kde-cvs installed by itself?
I did try unmerging the 3.1.4 versions of kdepim and kdenetwork and reemerging the 3.2.0-beta1 versions, but this did not help me. I also renamed the kio_smtp.la and kio_smtp.so files in /usr/kde/3.1/lib/kde3 without fixing this problem.
I am very tempted to unmerge kde 3.2 beta and give kde-cvs a try. _________________ I'm only hanging out in OTW until I get rid of this stupid l33t ranking.....Crap. That didn't work. |

Not to sound like a jackass, but did you try disabling smtp authentication? _________________ -Zedd |

As it turns out, that actually was the issue. In KDE 3.1.4, if your server didn't support SMTP authentication, but you had it checked, that was ignored. In KDE 3.2, it gives you an error message that could be better worded. _________________ I'm only hanging out in OTW until I get rid of this stupid l33t ranking.....Crap. That didn't work. |
