Few days ago I assembled a new computer with very recent hardware (at least, here in Italy): motherboard z270A; i7-7700K at 4.20 GHz; GeForce GTX 1050ti; 32GB Corsair 3000 MHz ram.
I installed gentoo with LVM2; EFI boot; Kernel 4.9.16 (a difficult one, I think); kde-plasma 5.8.5.
Everything seems absolutely perfect (a Gentoo tradition, isn't?). No errors at all from dmesg. Only two things about which I'm asking for a kind help.
(1) nouveau 1.13 (the same happens with 1.14 and 1.15) - impossible to make it working (gets installed but isn't used by my NVIDIA card - too recent?). I must work with vesa driver.
(2) thunderbird - gets installed but doesn't recognize my usual account.
Here are my questions: (i) is that concerning nouveau a transitory known problem, and which could be the reasons? (ii) what could I change thunderbird with?
Many thanks to the friends that will be so kind to help an half newbie.

Hi,
thanks for the link. I studied carefully its contents, and it seems that it will be necessary to wait for a new version of nouveau fully supporting the GTX 1050 ti graphic card. At the moment, anything simple to do.

Hi,
I succeeded to have a fully functional Thunderbird installing the ~amd64 52.1.1 (64 bit) version.
My problems, so, are partially SOLVED!
Thanks for the attention. _________________ Giorgio Cittadini |
