LiveCD Install

I'm downloading the PowerPC G3 LiveCDs to install gentoo on my mac. I only want a basic install that I can use to connect with my dial up modem and build the system from scratch. What is the minimum amount of downloading I can do.

you have to at least dl the basic install cd... but from there you can download and install to your hearts content.

But also have you used linux before, does your modem work? i had all sorts of problums gettin my modem to work i ended up just buying a new modem, it sucked
