Every thing almost works and it only took half a dozen compiles.
The first problem is the framebuffer (nice totally balck screen), but that isn't my question, since it is disabled for now.
As I watch the system booting up, I see remnants of what I recognize - and extra stuff thrown in. For example, one line looks like
Code: |
* InitialisalasALSA .... [
[ok]
|
In other words, random characters are just thrown in. I seem to remember somthing similar happening when I upgraded the kernel under my last version of Mandrake. Dmesg looks just fine.
What would fix this?

Note: got framebuffer working, and it doesn't have the problem. Still, why would the random characters pop up? _________________ ... |

now, let me guess, have you by any chance forgotten to run lilo or grub after a kernel compile?

What, I need to do more than edit grub.conf?
Yes, I did the root and setup commands (again). No difference.
