|

Well, maybe the truth about X modules is out there, but it must be faaaar away from my box. I am perhaps taking too seriously this thing about Linux not being just an OS, but an excellent opportunity to... you know, learn. So, what's my problem? Well, I just want to learn what the modules in XF86Config do.
My XF86Config has a nice "modules" section with quite a lot of lines, most of them put by default when I first installed Linux. A few of them I know what they do, after many hours googling and gentooing. But there are others (and many more that I've seen in other people's XF86Config files) that I just don't know why are there and what they do. Could you guys help me identifying them and explaining their function? Here is my particular list to begin with (please, feel free to add/comment yours!):
Code: | Section "Module"
Load "dbe"
Load "drm"
# SubSection "extmod"
# Option "omit xfree86-dga"
# EndSubSection
Load "dri"
Load "extmod"
Load "record"
Load "xie"
# Load "glx"
Load "xtrap"
Load "speedo"
Load "type1"
Load "freetype"
# Load "xtt"
EndSection |
By the way, I don't know why some lines are commented (and thus modules not loaded). As I don't know what those modules do, I don't know whether to load them or not. OK, let's go for it. Thank you all. |

I don't know them all but there is always www.xfree.org and the XFree documentation! BTW, you made the same post 3 times. |
