I downloaded the latest version of Mosfet's Liquid engine (0.9.5) and am using an emerged KDE3 (don't know how to find out the exact build). I did the usual ./configure; su; make; make install as per the (rather minimal) readme, and now when I start KDE as my usual user kicker fails to load. Any attempts to restart it result in a segv. Logging in as root does not seem to cause this problem. Does anyone know what gives?

Also, I haven't switched styles with my that user yet. Root can be switched between Liquid and other styles several times with no problems. So AFAIK nothing has changed for my user...

this doesn't directly address your problem, but the liquid theme has been packaged as an ebuild (x11-themes/mosfet-liquid-widgets). Maybe removing the source code you compiled manually and merging that would help. Just a suggestion...

Wow. I didn't know that... (/me feels dumb) :)

I'll try that when KDevelop finishes compiling.

no need to feel dumb. I had already downloaded the source myself and was preparing to do a manual install when I thought I'd try doing an 'emerge search liquid' just for the hell of it. As you can imagine, I was pleasantly surprised when it turned up.

By the way, I noticed that you're from Slidell. I grew up in Chalmette and Covington. Nice to meet you. 8)
