Could someone give me a hint on which file to edit to get the KDE login manager to show Gnome as an option?
TIA |

Did you reboot or restart the x server? Mine came up just fine, but only after a reboot. |

When gnome-base was installed on my system an option was automatically created. As stevil said, you would need to restart kdm/X to load the new options.
If it wasn't done on your machine you need to check the "SessionTypes" defined in the kdmrc file. On my system that is in /usr/kde/3/share/config/kdm the line should read something like:
SessionTypes=Gnome,Xsession,kde-3.0,
Where the session names listed correspond to the names of the scripts in /etc/X11/Sessions which control the startup of the selected session. |

yes, there should be an executable script in /etc/X11/Sessions called *gnome (*=executable) |
