Hello,
I have been having a problem with downloading the ebuild repository snapshot. I have tried root# emerge-webrsync, root# emerge --sync, and root# emerge --sync --quiet and each time it fails to download a snapshot of the ebuild repository. Every other step of the way so far has gone smoothly, but I cannot understand what I'm doin wrong here with this step. If anybody has had this problem and figured out a solution or if anybody has any idea how I can complete this step of the install??
--------------------------------------------------
I guess it may be useful to include a copy of the command line display.
Code: | (chroot) sysresccd / # emerge-webrsync
!!! Repository 'x-portage' is missing masters attribute in '/usr/portage/metadata/layout.conf'
!!! Set 'masters = gentoo' in this file for future compatibility

it keeps trying to download the previous snapshot over and over in a continuous loop. I have let it run for 30min or so to see if it would finally find a copy to download.. it doesn't.
ANY HELP at all would be greatly appreciated.

[Moderator edit: Moved poster's self-response into main post, then deleted that self-response to return the thread to the unanswered list.
OP: Generally, if post length permits, you should edit extra information into your first post instead of replying to it. Some users run a canned search for threads with zero replies as a way of finding posts to answer. When you replied to yourself, you removed your thread from that list, even though you were not replying to announce that the thread was solved. Thus, they would no longer see your thread on the list of unanswered threads.

As far as I can tell, the Sandia mirror is not responding. Try another mirror.
EDIT: Apparently the mirror has been down since January. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo?

I switched my mirror to the University of Utah and it worked. Now i'm having trouble with setting the timezone and locale. /usr/share/zoneinfo does not exist, neither does /etc/timezone. when I add the locale to /etc/locale.gen and run root# locale-gen, I get Code: | (chroot) sysresccd / # locale-gen
bash: locale-gen: command not found |
