|
|
I have followed advice for making a liveusb, namely Code: | dd if=/home/ff/Downloads/livedvd-amd64-multilib-20160704.iso of=/dev/sdf bs=8192k |
Things boot fine, but I am presented a gui (what would be useful is a console window) and I can't manage to login
1) What can I do to disable the unwanted gui so as to have a console wondow? Pressing F1, or Alt+F1 or Ctrl+Alt+F1 does not do it for me.
2) What can I do to have the usb boot up directly into a console window?
3) What can I do to login as things are now, i.e., I see a screen with a box containing greyed-out "Password" and another containing "Login".
4) Where can I find documentation explaining how to login to the gui (an answer to question 3 does not obviate question 4 because I want to learn about where documentation hides).
By the way, I don't have a mouse.
Thanks

Near as I can tell...
1) You can't... (you can choose options before booting, but you are trapped in the gui if booting to the gui).
2) You can't have it boot directly to a console window in any sort of automatic way (you must interact to choose options to avoid booting into the gui).
3) Hit enter using a keyboard whose enter key works reliably.
4) No idea.
Anyone know of a livedvd-amd64... .iso which is recent and is free of the gui stuff and accepts boot options like net.ifnames=0 and docache?
It is beginning to look like I need to roll my own. |

dpaddy,
Why do you want a DVD ?
Is System Rescue CD useful.
It boots to a root console by default. Its also Gentoo based. I don't know about net.ifnames=0 and docache. _________________ Regards,
