Haven't downloaded or installed the stage 3 tarball because I can't get my uni's eduroam wifi to work. Saw some threads mentioning wpa-supplicant but I can't get any additional packages without portage and the stage 3 tarball. I can connect to eduroam on my phone, so I grab the DNS server address from there and use net-setup wlp58s0 with a blank password. The DNS doesn't seem to work; I always just get "host not found" errors. When logging into this network on my phone it prompts me for both a username and a password; I'm guessing that the wpa-supplicant package deals with this kind of stuff but as I said before I can't get any packages without getting on line first. The wlp58s0 interface is UP. Any advice? |

Try with sysresccd as installation medium. |

I had posted initially about this but decided to delete because I figure someone else who already stepped through the eduroam process would provide a better answer. However you will need to copy all of the setup from a working eduroam machine to the wpa_supplicant configuration including all of the 802.1x config, username, password, etc. for it to work. You could technically get all the information needed from your phone.
I believe that the wpa_supplicant tool should be on the Gentoo mini-installer CD (if not, I think that would be a bug...) else as charles17 indicates, the system rescue cd has it. You will have to ensure you configure it correctly, and to connect to eduroam leaving a empty password surely won't work. It may "connect" but the access point, as you're not authenticated, won't listen to you. _________________ Intel Core i7 2700K/Radeon R7 250/24GB DDR3/256GB SSD

You should be able to tether your phone (using the rndis-host driver) and use its wifi for the installation. |
