Hi guys,

just curios here: installed using the latest stage3 and hybrid dvd, did step by step all the steps until the first reboot and after reboot it says:

Minimal BASH-like line editing ...

rebooted loaded from live dvd again, checked /boot partition ... where should be the problem?

setup exactly same as in the handbook.

did anybody tried to do a fresh install with 4.12.12?

The minimal bash-like editing message is from GRUB.

What you should check: your grub.cfg or menu.lst depending on which version of grub you're using. You should see this file in /grub/ in your boot partition (so /boot/grub/ if you have it mounted)

The right procedure from here is dependent on how you ran grub-install (and how your partitions were set up)...

One thing that could help people out is

Code:
# cd /path/to/your/boot/partition; ln -s . boot

This will tell grub to fake it if you had grub installed onto your hard drive a bit weird.

from what i understood looking online, mainly the problem here happens when ppl replaced/forgot/changed grub.conf which in my case is actually auto-generated file, which i did not touch.

yes this is a efi system with grub:2.

particularly the command i ran was

Code:

grub-install --target=x86_64-efi --efi-directory=/boot
grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

no error output from either command.

Code:

GRUB_PLATFORMS="efi-64"

in the make.conf

so here is grub.conf just in case:

Code:

#
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE
#
# It is automatically generated by grub-mkconfig using templates
# from /etc/grub.d and settings from /etc/default/grub

Try renaming your grub.conf to grub.cfg ... that gets me all the time.

sorry guys have to reopen the same topic again: after almost 2 days of installation tried to make an image with CloneZilla 2.0.5 and 2.2.15 and grub partition failed to save.

gparted shows an error on the grub partition. message on the partition:

Code:

Unale to read a content of this filesystem! This cause might be a missing software package. the following system software required for FAT32 system support: dosfstools, mtools

message from clonezilla:

Code:

Run partclone: partclone.vfat -z 10485760 -N -L /var/log/partclone.log -c -s /dev/sda1 --output - | pigz -c --fast -b 1024 -p 16 --rsyncable | split -a 2 -b 4096MB - /home/partimag/Gentoo-KDE-2017-10-15/sda1.vfat-ptcl-img.gz. 2> /tmp/split_error.838mxC

again setup is exactly as in the handbook.

os itself boots fine.

google has only 1 post about this error above and really the suggestion is to try the latest clonezilla, which i used.

Might want to open a new topic as this is unrelated to the initial grub issue, and probably belongs in the unsupported software as I don't think Gentoo has clonezilla yet...
