|

This is not a question on how to get this and that game to run, but how to optimize the settings to get a fast and stable server.
I have a machine with a P3 600Mhz cpu and 512Mb ram which I plan to use as a dedicated Quake 3 server. No fancy window manager
or other things than the most necessary to get it running and remotely login with ssh.
What settings should i put in make.conf, CFLAGS and USE, to get the most out of my machine? Stability versus speed?
I want a lean, mean game server!
Which kernel should I use?
How big does the swap need to be?
What filesystem should I use, ext2, ext3, reiserfs?
When the installation is complete, is there any services that doesn´t need to run that I can disable to speed things up?
Any other tips?
Damn, many questions! _________________ Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment |
