PostPosted: Tue Oct 31, 2017 10:10 pm    Post subject: [solved] suspend re-wakens intermittently after 10 seconds Reply with quote

I have a 2013 macbook air and last year got suspend upon lid close working beautifully.

In the past month I've noticed that sometimes the screen turns off after the lid is closed, but then comes back on about 10 seconds later. This has led to me opening the laptop a few hours later to find the battery mostly drained. However, the issue is not consistent. For many times in a row suspend upon lid close works as expected. But once it stops working, it keeps not working until I reboot the machine. It doesn't always work properly after reboot either though.

The only things I've installed in the last month are:

Code:
Wed Oct 11 22:55:09 2017 >>> sys-auth/realtime-base-0.1
Wed Oct 11 22:55:59 2017 >>> media-sound/jack2-1.9.11_rc1
Wed Oct 11 23:11:25 2017 >>> app-shells/push-2.0
Wed Oct 11 23:11:31 2017 >>> app-shells/quoter-3.0_p2
Wed Oct 11 23:12:36 2017 >>> app-portage/eix-0.32.4
Thu Oct 12 00:22:15 2017 >>> virtual/jack-0
Thu Oct 12 00:22:24 2017 >>> dev-qt/qtx11extras-5.6.2
Thu Oct 12 00:23:13 2017 >>> media-sound/qjackctl-0.4.5
Thu Oct 12 00:43:02 2017 >>> sys-libs/glibc-2.23-r4
Thu Oct 12 01:10:01 2017 >>> cross-avr/binutils-2.25.1-r1
Thu Oct 12 11:51:09 2017 >>> app-eselect/eselect-chuck-1.0.2
Thu Oct 12 11:51:47 2017 >>> media-sound/chuck-1.3.5.2
Mon Oct 16 15:06:05 2017 >>> net-wireless/wpa_supplicant-2.6-r3
Tue Oct 17 11:58:46 2017 >>> dev-python/lxml-3.8.0
Tue Oct 17 11:58:56 2017 >>> media-libs/lv2-1.14.0
Tue Oct 17 11:59:18 2017 >>> media-libs/libsoundtouch-1.8.0-r1
Tue Oct 17 11:59:29 2017 >>> media-libs/portmidi-217-r1
Tue Oct 17 11:59:56 2017 >>> media-libs/portaudio-19_pre20140130
Tue Oct 17 12:08:14 2017 >>> media-sound/audacity-2.1.3-r1

The only ones that seem like they might be relevant are wpa_supplicant and sys-auth/realtime-base.

I have dmesg and pm-suspend.logs from both when the suspend behaves as expected and when it improperly re-wakens. Nothing strikes me as obviously wrong in the re-waking case.

dmesg from failed suspend:

I'm running kernel 4.4.6 and using Xfce Power Manager 1.6.0 (which is the latest stable). I am not sure what command xfce4-power-manager uses to suspend, I tried to look it up online or in config files but I was unsuccessful.

I looked at cat /proc/acpi/wakeup and saw that XHC1 (trackpad?) was enabled. I disabled it and now I'm no longer having issues. From other posts I saw, the general approach to solving this is to look at what devices are enabled to wake the laptop and disable them one by one to find the culprit. Then write some sort of start script to make the disable permanent.
