Wifi not working with kernel newer than 4.10? RPI3

Hello folks,

is anyone here running Gentoo arm64 on the RPI3 with a kernel newer than branch 4.10 and has got wifi to actually work?

I tried them all with same exact kernel config, and I really can't get wifi to work on any kernel other than branch 4.10.

I have tried installing =sys-boot/raspberrypi-firmware-9999 and upgrading =sys-kernel/linux-firmware-99999999 (from 20171009) but made no difference.

I have been trying to figure this out since a couple of weeks but got nowhere near to have any clue about it.
