This is propably a stupid question, but as someone who mostly has to use Windows, it's a bit confusing for me, the way Linux recognizes a RAID volume.
I set up a RAID 0 (40GB / 20GB - I know, should be 40-40 ) set in the BIOS of that controller. Windows setup recognizes the drive as one hard disk. No problem at all, piece of cake to work with.
Now, since I've never installed Linux on a computer with a RAID controller, I've a problem
When booting Red Hat 9 Install CD, I selected Expert Partitioning. Disk Druid showed me 3 hard disks:
/hdc -- The disk I use to install Linux onto -- 20GB
/hde -- (hde1) NTFS (40GB ???)
/hdf -- appearantly empty (20GB)
I already installed Gentoo Linux on hdc, only the basic, no Gnome/KDE/...
Since I used kernel v2.4.20-gentoo-r6, the hard disks attached to the RAID controller aren't visible to Linux.
After compiling the HPT372 drivers and adding it to the kernel as a module, the controller is detected, but no attached devices.
In other topics, I read that I should use the ac-sources for building my kernel. I haven't done this yet.
What I'd like to know:
Is there a way to make that hde/hdf seen as one disk (/dev/md1?), without having to compromise my Windows system which I use for MS Visual Studio .Net
This would also make things easier to boot, as grub couldn't be installed on the MBR of that RAID-0 diskset. Right now, I've to boot using a grub disk and typing command manually
Thank you in advance for enlighting me |

Any idea how to make Linux see hde and hdf as one volume, that I can mount for accessing Windows data ? |
