I've installed Redhat previously, but wanted to give Gentoo a try. Install seemed to go well, although I kept getting packages from the net instead of off the CDs--I think this issue is addressed elsewhere.
Gentoo boots, but a warning flashes by that some local filesystems were not mounted--specifically, I can't locate the CD reader. I notice, when loggin in as root, that there is no /mnt directory at all. Clearly I've done something wrong. Help?

Well, /mnt is just a directory, so you could simply create it with your normal
The permissions on it are usually 744. There shouldn't be any harm in just manually recreating the directory, if you want you can just make an arbitrary directory and use that for mounting instead. Something like "chacks_drives_of_doom" or something. But that would be hard to type.
