i have a few old smartphones and tablet lying around almost unused. as they are still fully functioning, i wonder if i can gentoo them.
i think my old devices are mostly arm6 and some arm7, probably too low spec'd for compiling gentoo. but i'm hoping i could cross-compile binpkgs on my main rig and/or distcc. i don't care if it takes many days to compile, as long as it works later. if i can't update kernels (the only issue i can think of), perhaps i could use the same old same old android kernels with updated gentoo userland.
i think (multi)booting gentoo is preferable, as running gentoo within android might not be optimum or what i would want in the long run. if i can gentoo working, i would wipe android off.. even perhaps from my current devices.
has anyone tried something like this with some amount of success? _________________ "Growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of the cancer cell." Edward Abbey |
