Hello,
After the last update I got new gentoo sources for the 4.15 version of the kernel. I could compile it without any issue. I could rebuild the x11 modules but when I tried the emerge @module-rebuild the virtualbox guest additions failed to be rebuilt.
Code:
 * ERROR: app-emulation/virtualbox-guest-additions-5.2.6::gentoo failed (compile phase):
 *   emake failed

Code:
emerge --info '=app-emulation/virtualbox-guest-additions-5.2.6::gentoo'

app-emulation/virtualbox-guest-additions-5.2.6::gentoo was built with the following:
USE="X" ABI_X86="(64)"

I don't know what to do as I have no clue about the issue.
I saw in the lines flowing during the compiling this line:
Code:
/var/tmp/portage/app-emulation/virtualbox-guest-additions-5.2.6/work/vboxguest/VBoxGuest-linux.c:1173:66: error: initialization from incompatible pointer type [-Werror=incompatible-pointer-types]
 module_param_call(r3_log_to_host, vgdrvLinuxParamR3LogToHostSet, vgdrvLinuxParamR3LogToHostGet, NULL, 0664);

And this is only type of error I saw.
Best regards,
pourpier

As I have never used a patch what are the concrete steps I need to follow ?
Do I have to find the file in question and edit it manually by removing the red lines and by adding the green lines ?
Or is there a way to do it without editing the file ?
Best regards

I am trying to send you the complete ebuild but I get a message that it is waiting for forums.gentoo.org and then error 504.
I'll try again later

Here the result of wgetpaste: https://paste.pound-python.org/show/lhAO8VshH379LH1SrKdN/

I checked that both include/generated/autoconf.h and include/config/auto.conf are present !

Try to apply this patch manually (I have not found another method)
Code:
# ebuild /usr/portage/app-emulation/virtualbox-guest-additions/virtualbox-guest-additions-5.2.6.ebuild prepare
# cd /var/tmp/portage/app-emulation/virtualbox-guest-additions-5.2.6/work
# patch -p1 < /path/of/patch
# ebuild /usr/portage/app-emulation/virtualbox-guest-additions/virtualbox-guest-additions-5.2.6.ebuild install qmerge

I saw some differences between your patch and the one from the ticket: you add the -a option and the name of the files isn't completely the same. Could you explain me why you added the -a option ?

It worked perfectly.
Thanks a lot,
pourpier

There is a bug report for this problem https://bugs.gentoo.org/646468

The patch works using the manual procedure.

I tried to using as a user patch in /etc/portage/patches/app-emulation/virtualbox-guest-additions-5.2.6/ but it failed.

The S directory is "/var/tmp/portage/app-emulation/virtualbox-guest-additions-5.2.6/work/VirtualBox-5.2.6/" and the patch files are located one level down at "/var/tmp/portage/app-emulation/virtualbox-guest-additions-5.2.6/work/vboxguest/".

I think in this ebuild S is the current directory when eapply_user is called.
