Hey
In the windows enviroment with Active Directory Services (ADS) you can have offline files, so that when I am connected to the network, my files are synced as required.
I have heard that you can accomplish this using a samba server and a windows client.
Is there a way to do this so that I can use my linux box as a client and have it sync with my ADS domain using samba client or something?
Thanks

If I'm reading your question right, your looking for a way to sync files from a network mount to your laptop.
In the Windows world, everything is client driven. The client tries to 'spoof' the conection when you are off-line. ie - it actually shows you the share path, and then your local sync'd files.
In Linux, it works much the same way. It is all client based - however, by default it does not spoof your connection path. ie - you will have seperate directory structure for the files your syncing.
Or at least that is as far as I have pushed it.
ANYWAY - the command you are looking for is rsync. Bring up the man page on it and get comfy. Its an old Unix utilty {People thought M$ invented this, bah} and has lotsa features. There are a few posts about it on the forum if you search closely. _________________ Kres |
