Hi, I have been playing around with installing gentoo on virtualbox and so far there have been a couple issues, when I boot into the system. I had not set a root password, and therefore now I am somewhat locked out of making any significant changes to the system. Unfortunately even if I try to boot in single root user it throws an error about that as well, which
"Cannot open access to console, the root account is locked."
Then is points me to more information in the sulogin man page.
Does this seem like something that I could bypass somehow? Or would going backwards a step make sense, and enter the livecd to chroot again and make sure to set a root password before continuing (thereby unlocking it?)
I wasn't aware from the various installation instructions that I looked at that it was necessary to set a root passwd before rebooting a new installation. Is it? |
