|
|
Hi all,
I'm trying to install Gentoo 1.4 (stage3) and it runs fine til i run emerge sync. i get the following output:
Quote: | >>> starting rsync with rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage...
rsync: getaddrinfo: rsync.gentoo.org 873: Temporary failure in name resolution
rsync error: error in socket IO(code 10) at clientserver.c(83) |
I tried it at least 10 times but everytime wit the same result. When I'm trying emerge-webrsync it says
Quote: | Fetching the newest portage tree |
but nothing happens, it just exits.
I'm behind a SMC router, but my internet-connction works perfectly (i loaded stage3 from the web).
Is this really a temporary failure or is it a fault on my computer???
Thanks, ditchen dit |

are you able to ping rsync.gentoo.org? the error message says something about not being able to resolve the name... maybe there's a dns problem with the rsync-server... i don't think that it's your fault _________________ Get a life...

I'm also having this problem. It seemed to start up fine, but then timed out a little way into it, and now I get the same message that ditchen_dit was getting. I am also behind a router, but the network connection worked fine earlier in the install.
Thanks,

I too am having the same exact problem and i dont know what to do. What i was thinking, because it seems like its my firewall, is i would forward my ports. I would forward the ports that #emerge sync is trying to use so it can access them and finish the command. Would this work and if it does what ports/port range would need to be forwarded? |

hi,
things to check:
1. Need to copy/edit resolv.conf when u chroot into "/mnt/gentoo".
eg.(before "chroot"ing)
cp /etc/resolv.conf /mnt/gentoo/etc/resolv.conf
2. Rsync uses port 873 tcp/udp, make outgoing connection is enabled for your system.
hope these helps |
