|
|
I am doing a fresh stage 3 install of gentoo 1.4 (athlonxp) and have chrooted and got to the emerge sync part of the guide with no problems.
emerge sync
It comes up no usr/portage not found, creating...
Then rsync://rsync. etc...
and just sits there. Nothing downloaded. I am connecting through a proxy and firewall and have set rsync_proxy=server:port in /etc/make.conf
links2 can connect to http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu/ and download stages so the network is fine.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

You are likely behind a firewall that does not allow rsync traffic, try using the alternative emerge-webrsync which will automatically fetch and use snapshots for you. At work I have to use this method given the firewall policy/settings which I am unable to impact or change.

Thanks for the info. What ports etc do I need to open up to allow rsync? I have port 873 opened up for outgoing connections on the firewall on the host. Any other ports needed for this action.
Thanks again |

I googled for "commonly used ports rsync" and came up with a nice little chart (I don't know how correct it is though) as hosted by Dead Rat, I mean Red Hat. According to them it is port 873, it appears to indicate that this is the incoming and outgoing, but does not explicitly indicate either way. Here is a link to the chart/document for any interested parties.
