i can't complain that gentoo sux in any way. I had my system cross-emerged before i got my system. everything was ready. dhcp, the ip, dns, the external ssd with sata to usb adapter, the usbc charger, the hdmi4 connector. everything was in place... and the hype... and i've never been more impressed.

2 points.

1. gentoo. it's something deeply wrong for normal humans to watch a screen of letters scroll by. but i love gentoo. and for me... package 170 of 269. no errors. distcc doing wonderfully. the new gigabyte connection. everything falling perfectly into place. and gentoo being the octopuss holding it all together.

I can't tell any of you into words how much satisfaction I feel over here just watching a terminal scroll... just scroll. and the speed with which it does... i can see the ddr3 at work. and /ramfs doing it's thing. ... having a ramfs...

and 2. the hardware. rpi4 outdone themselves. i dont know about you but i didn't expect anything this year. maybe next year some riscv stuff. anyway.

the hardware in this thing... it's exquisite for a board that cost me 80E in Romania. it's just more than I ever expected.

HONESTLY ITS MORE. not only it's capable to tackle "THE NEMESIS" which for me is sys-devel/gcc, but you can also chroot in lesser arches. easier to make those packages.

I really love this thing. I didn't expect it one bit, and it blew my mind.

I mean no offense here but lol that is some funroll-loops tier stuff.

On that note, I'm saving a copy since I went through three mirrors to find a working one.

(to clarify, I too enjoy it at times, when things are going smoothly anyway)

None taken. Rather have my problems than other people's problems.

Yeah, it could use some modernizing and cleaning up. USE flags are what brought me to Gentoo, anyway. I got sick of Arch throwing in dependencies that I didn't ask for. I think it was gvim requiring ruby that initially ticked me off. I learned ABS, but it felt too restrictive. Then I found source-based distros. I tried Slackware, then Sabayon, until eventually I was successful with a Gentoo system.

I've been meaning to try other source-based distros to learn how they do their version of USE flags. IMO it's the killer feature of a source-based distro. You get exactly what you want.
