I do not see any differences between the syntaxes concerning atom specification (including extended specification) supported by the two package managers! |

And that's why you shouldn't be criticising it. Dunning-Kruger. |

I see pkgcore allow you to break the portage rule Atoms containing wildcard patterns are of the form category/package with a more simplistic "package" that would be assume as "*/package" by pkgcore
Quote: | * ________________________ match anything |
is invalid for portage, the equivalent is */*
And it goes the same for "*cgi*"... |

In my opinion, the expressions mentioned should only be used on the command line. In fact, Pkgcore may used these expressions in configuration files.
I guess my point was incorrect but I disagree with the mentioned (or implied) design choice. For example, it is easy to add * to unmask all packages. |

In other words, I think some atom specifications used by Pkgcore may be unsuitable in some cases. Of course, the user (or an administrator) must use common sense.
That's why I said Portage and Pkgcore are similar. |

I had some issues with Portage so I checked the documentation.
man emerge wrote: | --help (-h)
Displays help information for emerge. Adding one of the additional arguments listed above will
give you more specific help information on that subject. The internal emerge help documentation
is updated more frequently than this man page; check it out if you are having problems that this
man page does not help resolve. |
man emerge wrote: | emerge --help | --version |
I feel the above option (--help) could be useful but unfortunately this option does not work as indicated (expected). |

emerge --help: | <snip>
For more help consult the man page. |

The documentation is confusing.
make.conf: | EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS="-aqv --mispell-suggestions=n" |
Code: | emerge literate
!!! '--mispell-suggestions=n' is not a valid package atom.
!!! Please check ebuild(5) for full details. |
Edit: I spend time solving trivial problems, handling Portage, understanding Portage documentation. |

Check your typing. It's "misspell" not "mispell". _________________ ..: Zucca :..

that was a joke in reference to the a-team (you know, because of your nick Mr. T), and they comes with the famous "if no one else can help..." ; which i find amazing that Mr. T is asking help where we're suppose to call a-team to get some.
ps: yeah, i should really stop reference and jokes, looks like i'm way to subtitle, or sucks. For my defence, it does work with my friends |

I've never seen A-Team and I recognized it right away. I pity the fool that takes the name of Mr. T. without knowing its history. |
