legacy,
Its good to hear that someone besides me is running a static /dev.

I've been there and done that with a SPARC U10, that can only boot using the worst ever IDE controller in the world. _________________ Regards,

Hi,
@legacy:
first off, are you using a mac compatible card? as far as i know, there is a lot of trouble getting "normal" pc components running on macs on every os. Does the controller work on macos? second; if yes, are you using the latest bios on the controller? third, i have found some issues about initializing this controller according to the scsi init timeout. Usually it should take a max time of 30s, but the adaptec controllers need 35s. also check your interrupts, maybe there is a conflict with another card.

bah, Adapted doesn't say it.
When the vendor doesn't say it, you have a probability of incompatibility.
That happens, in fact, due to the initialization, the depends on the x86 code in the flash.
Can't be fixed, unless you do a full reverse-engineering of flash-code, in order to create a new kernel-driver able to directly initialize the card instead of waiting for the job done by the PC-BIOS.
Yesterday I sold the PCI-X card on eBay for 20 euro. It was paid 40 brand new. My Syba SIL24 costs 60 euro on Amazon.
I am testing a lot of sATA and SCSI controllers, as well as FireWire400 and IB cards. |
