Hi Gentoo folks,
Running gdm/gnome. I login as a normal user and get an error message:
"Your session only lasted less then seconds. If you have not logged out yourself, this could mean there is some installation problem or that you may be out of diskspace. Thy logging in with one of the failsafe sessions to see if you can fix this problem."
I then get booted back to the gdm window.
My xsession-errors:
/etc/X11/gdm/PreSession//Default: Registering your session with wtmp and utmp
/etc/X11/gdm/Presession//Default: running: sessreg -a -w /var/log/wtmp -u /var/run/utmp -x "/var/lib/gdm:0.Xservers" -h "" -l :0 don
I can log into gnome as user 'root'.
I can log into twm fine as user 'don'.
This is a fresh install of gentoo.
What I've done:
Logged in as failsafe-gnome as user 'don'
Checked permissions on /tmp
Re-emerged gdm
Switched default runlevel to 5
Tried under xdm.
Remerged random gnome entries
The only thing I can think of is a permission error. But as far as I can tell, everything looks okay. I've goggled the hell out of this and came up empty. Its probably a simple error.
Cheers,
Don

Permissions problems with /tmp
Solution:
umount /tmp
chmod 1777 /tmp
mount /tmp
chmod 1777 /tmp
Back to the Happy World O' Gentoo.
Cheers,
