|
|
i have grub 2.00 on my current system. i want to use the microcode feature of the newest grub v 2.02-r1.
what is the correct way to upgrade grub in that case?
i am asking because updating the package still shows grub 2.00 in boot menu.
so i tried reinstalling it to /dev/sda - boot menu shows correct version 2.02 but gets stuck in grub shell.

"but gets stuck in grub shell."
means it can't find or can't read grub.cfg
booting in UEFI mode? booting in Legacy BIOS mode? not a UEFI motherboard?
what exact command did you issue when reinstalling grub?
If using a separate boot partition, was it mounted when the grub reinstall command was issued? _________________ Defund the FCC. |

Does grub.cfg exist in the location where grub expects to find it?
boot system rescue cd/usb, mount the gentoo partitions; nominally: Code: | mount /dev/sda4 /mnt/gentoo
ls -lR /mnt/gentoo/boot | wgetpaste -t
mount /dev/sda2 /mnt/gentoo/boot
ls -lR /mnt/gentoo/boot | wgetpaste -t | if your root partition is not /dev/sda4 and/or your boot partition is not /dev/sda2 substitute your values. Post the url's returned here. _________________ Defund the FCC. |
