i am aware of https://fitzcarraldoblog.wordpress.com/2015/07/01/switching-between-intel-and-nvidia-graphics-processors-on-a-laptop-with-nvidia-optimus-hardware-running-gentoo-linux/

which doesnt use bumblebee, but i am curious. Did the official nvidia sources ever implement graphics switching? I am assuming not, but i havent had to think about it since 2014-2015 during the last time i had to run it on actual hardware.

is bumblebee/(the method in that link above) still the way to go if you require powersaving/feel sketchy about leaving a beefy gpu running in a laptop constantly?

also asuming https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/NVIDIA/Optimus doesnt help if you want the gpu to shut off while not in use

Most switching techniques require to restart X. That makes them useless to me.

I am with Bumblebee for years now, and simply start programs that can make use of the nvidia chip with primusrun. Works like a charm.
