Currently, whenever an application tries to open a folder, it is opened inside Firefox - presumably because FIrefox has registered the file:// protocol.

How can I register sunflower as my default file manager instead? I could not find a MIME registry in my profile.

pun_guin ... my least favourite "standard", but here goes ...

The following will show what the current 'default' is for directories ... no surprise if this outputs firefox.desktop

Code:
% xdg-mime query default inode/directory

AFAIK, it's set with the following:

Code:
% xdg-mime default sunflower.desktop inode/directory

That should set the 'default' to sunflower, not sure where this gets stored, under ~/.local/share/applications, or $XDG_DATA_HOME I expect ... no idea, I'm not using xdg).

HTH & best ... khay

Ah, I had to emerge xdg-utils with a whole load of dependencies for that... weird enough that Firefox could register itself anyway.

But now (e.g.) the nextCloud client still uses Firefox to open its directory. :(

If you close all Firefox instances, then prompt NextCloud to open a directory, what is the command line of the resulting Firefox? Browsers handle many formats, so perhaps NextCloud is not requesting a "directory" like the other applications did, but some other resource that Firefox handles.

The command line is actually:

Code:
firefox file:///home/tux/Nextcloud/

So it seems that file:// is still hard-wired with Firefox.
