There was another post here similar to my issue but not quite the same. In the other post there was a bug with the llvm ebuild which added incompatible paramerters to gcc on aarch64.
In my case, I have the patched ebuild but I'm still failing on the step:

Code:
The C compiler "/usr/bin/aarch64-unknown-linux-gnu-gcc"
is not able to compile a simple test program.
It fails with the following output:
 Change Dir: /var/tmp/portage/sys-devel/llvm-6.0.0-r1/work/llvm-6.0.0.src-.arm64/CMakeFiles/CMakeTmp

It then repeats itself over and over however the 'Change Dir: ' path keeps growing to the point that this is on the screen

Without further ado:
Code:

picard /home/harrisj # emerge --info '=sys-devel/llvm-6.0.0-r1::gentoo'
Portage 2.3.40 (python 3.5.5-final-0, default/linux/arm64/17.0, gcc-7.3.0, glibc-2.27-r3, 4.14.48-v8-b36f4e9e1984+ aarch64)

first thing to check when gcc simple test fails is your compiler options

try just this to test:
Code:
CFLAGS="-mcpu=cortex-a53 -O2 -pipe"

i'm wondering if maybe the wrapper is choking on the feature modifier.

Brilliant bobbymcgee, it’s compiling now. Past the configure stage.

Would this be a cmake bug that should be reported upstream or the way emerge parses the flags?
